Australisches Englisch unterscheidet sich nicht nur im Klang von dem britischen Englisch, auch einige umgangssprachliche Worte und Redewendungen sind anders. Hier einige Beispiele:

Arvo = the afternoon (Nachmittag)
Bush = countryside/rural area (laendliche Gegend)
Bottle shop = liquor store (Wein- und Spirituosenhandlung)
Capsicum = pepper, as in the salad vegetable (Gemuesepaprika)
Chips = potato chips/hot chips (Kartoffelchips/Pommes)
Chook = chicken (Huhn)
Crook = sick, unwell (krank)
Dinkum = true, honest (aufrichtig, ehrlich)
Doona = quilt (Decke)
Esky = portable cool box (Kuehlbox)
Lollies = sweets of any kind (Bonbons)
Mate = fellow (Kumpel)
Nong = idiot
No worries = no problem
Stubbies = kleine Bierflaschen
Thongs = Flip Flops
Tinny = a can of beer (Bierdose)
Walkabout = go go for a long walk and get away from it all (Rundgang)
